Universitas Teknologi Sumbawa provides several programs that are very useful in honing the abilities of its students with this program, will be equipped with high social skills, and in one semester of the program, students are expected to be able to help development in the region where they serve.

Program Merdeka:
Moyo Island edition

Can you imagine studying in a tropical paradise? Now, you can complete 1 semester of your study on a dream island in Eastern Indonesia while helping the local community through UTS Program Merdeka.

The upcoming program will take place in Moyo Island, a hidden gem that is rich with biodiversity and economic potential. The program seeks to leverage the life of the local community through participative-community development.

This program combines experiential learning while allowing you to explore the beautiful island of Moyo and at the same time improve your skills and enrich your experience in a community-based development program. It is a fun learning and exploration packed into an academically recognized program! You can transfer the credit of this program to your academic transcript. 

The capstone of Program Merdeka is the empowerment of the village community and its government to tap and utilize village potentials that are unique to each village. The focus of the “Pesona Moyo” Merdeka programs is as follows:

Develop and implement educational programs for the local community to participate in the tourism sector such as simple hospitality workshops, and smartphone photography for promotional purposes, creating, and simple social media management.

Participative Need for Intervention research and mapping for long-run programs in tourism and conservation.

Assisting the local community in developing a community school focused on conservation-based education using the existing local activities and wisdom, providing a safe place for the local.

Working with the local community to document their folk stories and traditions.

Assisting the local community to develop and implement strategies to run the local-based waste management system.

Developing a visual media material to promote the island tourism potential

Rural-up

Direct engagement with local dynamics is the capstone of this program where participants incorporate their knowledge and skills in analyzing the societal problem, and developing solutions or programs to empower local people.

Combining modules, classroom discussions, and real case engagement, this program works with segmented topics and lectures, initiating the UTS Global Classroom that will be developed in the community.

Is an opportunity to learn and explore the wonders of Sumbawa and its people.

What the program offers:

Experience the remote, authentic, and rural Sumbawa. UTS learning programs accommodate the ruralness and uniqueness of its culture.

Objectives:

  • To bridge global talent (students, researchers, and practitioners) with local practices and their challenges toward a green world

  • To introduce and engage the global talents with localities to eventually put them in the global spotlight

  • Collaborative action in researching issues important to the communities
This program accepts proposals from prospective participants in the area of environment, global governance, community development, and business model for small enterprises. These topics can be developed from a multidisciplinary perspective and the program is open to receiving topics not limited to these through the considerations of the board of committee of this program.

BIOC: Bahasa Indonesia Offline Program

Short immersive program — 1 program 3 islands

Sumbawa is located in the middle of the Lesser Sunda Islands chain, surrounded by Lombok to the west, Flores to the east, and Sumba to the further southeast. It remains almost untouched by massive tourism.

This program offers the possibility to immerse yourself in a unique adventure, where you will improve your Bahasa Indonesia, learn from the local culture, and explore and discover the hidden gems of Sumbawa. The island offers a combination of beautiful landscapes, nature, and culture, making it a unique discovery.

The Directorate of International Engagement and Collaborations at the Sumbawa University of Technology has designed the program intending to bridge international participants with the local dynamics.
