Professionals in this field are highly on demand by the labor market. ​​The life sciences enables an understanding of the environment and the other living species necessary for humankind; this knowledge guides efforts towards conservation, environmental sustainability and human welfare.

The Faculty of Life and Technology Sciences at the UTS offers a substantial ground of fundamental bachelor's degree-level education and training

Developing from the Faculty of Biotechnology, this faculty focuses on basic scientific principles and specific concepts, techniques, and applications used in bio-engineering, management of fisheries aquatic systems, and livestock production and management.

Undergraduate Program of Biotechnology

In the bachelor's study program in Biotechnology, students are trained to prepare to join the fast-growing industry of food, and pharmaceutical industry, as well as further training in bioengineering. It is a strongly interdisciplinary program that benefits from the rich biodiversity and ecological dynamics of Indonesia to knit them into a tailored curriculum that is highly relevant to both development of the biotechnology field and local challenges.

Undergraduate Program in
Animal Husbandry

The program’s curriculum is developed to build students' capacity in livestock production and management, nutrition, and animal feed as well as livestock processing and business management to accommodate the demand of the modern food industry.

Undergraduate Program in
Fisheries Science

This study program focuses on preparing students to master the field of aquaculture covering from fish hatchery to feed, water quality to pest and disease control as well as the business and entrepreneurship side of aquaculture. The surrounding rich potential of freshwater, brackish water, and seawater environment provides a live laboratory for students to interact directly with cases in aquaculture.

Collaborations

Scholars from the faculty collaborate closely with other academics from different study programs such as Agricultural Product Technology or Informatics Engineering, in cutting-edge research projects to provide solutions to challenges at the regional and global levels.

The cooperation of the Faculty of  Life Science bears beyond the university, and collaborates with prestigious laboratories and research institutions such as the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences, the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAD), and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand, making the Faculty of  Life Science at UTS  a well established and relevant home of learning.
